Unique Innovation

Countries have introduced educational reforms that have swung open the doors for school choice, competition, innovation and the renewal of primary and secondary education. As a result, Kunskapsskolan was founded in Sweden in 1999 and opened its first schools in 2000. The idea was to collect the very best practices from pedagogy, technology, school design and process management to integrate them together into a coherent model of personalized education for the new century.

Bits and pieces of this had been done before. But it was executed by teachers trying to personalise within their isolated classrooms and by schools struggling within one-size-fits-all education. Never before had anyone had the long-term perspective and ambition to invest in a coherent development where pedagogy, accountability, IT technology, administration, teachers´ resources and school design are all designed with one common purpose: to
create a school centered on the recognition of each unique individual.

Continuous Improvement

Today, after more than 10 years of continuous development and more than 30 schools, the result is the internationally-acclaimed KED program.

KED attracts attention both for its consistent and coherent approach and its advanced use of information technology. Kunskapsskolan continues to develop the program;continuous improvement, based on practical experiences from all schools, is a core element of our philosophy, as seen in our performance management system; Kunskapsskolan's schools measure their performance in four dimensions:

  • Students academic performance
  • Student and parental satisfaction
  • Teacher quality and satisfaction
  • Financial performance

All the data we collect provides the basis for further development of methodology and processes.

Our mission is both educational and social: a long-term commitment to excellence and world-leading standards in schools and education. Children who are given the opportunity to experience this education will not only learn more, but will also leave school as empowered and confident human beings - better equipped to take on the challenges and responsibilities of universities and a working life.

VISION

Kunskapsskolan's educational vision empowers every student to master the challenges of today and shape the world of tomorrow.

Although education is fundamentally linked to each society's culture, language and history, the challenges facing governments and educators in different countries have much in common because in this new world our skills and competencies must be continuously renewed and developed. Knowledge and insights must be combined with creativity, initiative and the ability to take personal responsibility. All aspects of our schools are designed to provide a personalized education that meets the needs of each student and is built around the following core values

All people are different

All people are different and learn in different ways and at different rates. It is our task to meet this challenge. Regardless of his or her ability, each student has the right to a personal challenge every day.

We have high expectations

With the support of teachers who are well qualified, stimulating and have high expectations, each student will, through their own hard work, perseverance and ambition stretch their boundaries and learn more than they thought possible. We highlight good performance as an example to be followed and encourage our students to set challenging goals for which there are clear requirements.

We educate for life

We prepare students to live and work in the modern, global society with its ever-changing challenges and difficult choices. 'Education for life' gives students the ability to see context and patterns, understand and interpret events, take decisions and make choices. It is a driving force for a continual deepening and broadening of their knowledge, skills and understanding.

We believe that Life is what you make it

We give each student a foundation for personal development where self-discipline, self-knowledge, sense of responsibility and confidence in one's own ability provide the basis for a constructive attitude, the essence of which is that "life is what I make it"
